TDP Lamp Therapy

Heat therapy is an important aspect of Traditional Chinese Medicine. is the traditional method of applying heat therapeutically, however, a drawback is the inhalation of smoke particularly by practitioners who perform moxibustion with the majority of their patients.

TDP Lamp Therapy offer a wonderful alternative to burning moxa. Although not a direct substitute, TDP lamps generate a unique heat that, like moxibustion, is penetrating and stimulates deep muscle relaxation thereby increasing circulation, help reduce pain, and reduce inflammation. The use of the lamp also frees practitioners from the manual aspect of moxibustion, so that they can attend to other aspects of their patient care.

The TDP lamp is a specific electromagnetic lamp that produce far infrared (below visible light) emissions (2–50 micrometer range, just in case you were wondering). TDP is an acronym for “Teding Diancibo Pu” (特定电磁波谱) which loosely translated means specific electromagnetic spectrum. The lamp is used in several hospitals in China and Japan to increase micro-circulation, to loosen fascia and muscles, and to accelerate the natural healing processes of the body.

The TDP lamp is different from other far-infrared (FIR) heating devices. It contains a heated mineral plate made of a proprietary formula of 33 trace elements, which stimulates your body to heal naturally.

Who Would Benefit From TDP Lamp Therapy?
Anybody with muscles tightness, inflammation, or pain. The treatment is usually done on the neck, back, shoulders, knees, elbows, or ankles to recover faster from an injury (such as motor vehicle accident) and reduce pain. It can also be used for lower abdominal (cramping or period pain).

Are There Any Contraindications?
While using the TDP Lamp is completely safe and can be utilized by any person, patients with certain conditions may be advised not to use the device.

Patients that have neuropathy and cannot sense temperature properly can accidentally burn with the heat.
Children and infants who cannot express if they’re too hot should not be given the treatment.
Patients that have implants like pacemakers, silicone, or metal should avoid the treatment since the implants can absorb and retain heat differently than human tissue and can cause internal burns.
The treatment should never be taken on the head, or it can dry out the eyes especially in the case of patients that have hypertension.
The device must not be used if the patient has a fever, earache, eye infections, varicose veins, or a tendency to bleed easily.
Pregnant women are also advised against the treatment.
